Folks who follow Sania Jackson on social media likely heard about her intent to enroll this fall at Bowling Green State University.

After all, it was hard to miss – and that’s exactly what Jackson intended.

SaniaJacksonIncoming BGSU Pathway Program student Sania Jackson celebrates her decision to enroll at BGSU with a social media post showing her Falcon spirit.

“I always loved being different and 'extra,'” Jackson said. “I wanted to make a decision day post, but I wanted it to be something people rarely see.”

Jackson bought party decorations, food and other items to match BGSU colors. Framed by orange treats, BGSU merchandise and balloons, Jackson announced to the world that the University is the place for her.

“I chose to share it because, for a few weeks, I was going back and forth on my college decision,” she said. “After finally coming to a decision, I was extremely happy and wanted the world to know.”

Jackson grew up in Westerville, Ohio, a Columbus suburb, and graduated from high school in 2022. She will be the first in her family to attend college. This fall, she will join hundreds of incoming students to enroll at BGSU through the Pathway Program.

The BGSU Pathway Program offers students access to the full range of student services, facilities and opportunities available to all at the University with additional tools and resources to support the first year at BGSU. The program has grown steadily since its inception in 2014, enrolling more than 300 students this fall.

“We’re a community of support for our students and their families and, together, we help students on their journey through their pathway to success," said Christine Celestino-Boes, who leads the on-campus advising efforts for students in the Pathway Program.

“We’re excited the Pathway Program gives students like Sania a place at BGSU,” said Rob Drapcho, enrollment director for the Pathway Program. “The University is built on a mission of access, and the Pathway Program opens the door for more students to join the Falcon family.”

Jackson spent the last few years thoughtfully considering her future. Upon finding BGSU during her college search, she noticed the benefits of the Pathway Program.

“The BGSU Pathway Program was the right fit for me because it gives me an opportunity to get the education I desire while being in a smaller setting,” Jackson said. “A smaller setting makes me more comfortable.”

Jackson plans to start her college career in pursuit of a biology degree. She hopes to one day be an obstetrician, gynecologist or anesthesiologist.

“There aren’t a lot of people who look like me in the medical field,” Jackson said. “I would love to bring more representation to that community.”

Jackson said her family, friends and others are ecstatic and proud of her decision to enroll at BGSU. Her journey won’t slow down once the semester starts. She plans to meet plenty of new people, get involved in student organizations and enjoy the experience.

“I knew at a young age that I wanted to go to college and experience everything that goes along with it,” Jackson said. “I’m extremely excited and I can’t wait to meet everyone.”
