A message from the Dean
Welcome to the new BGSU Firelands digital newsletter. The new digital format improves upon previous newsletters with a more readable format and through expanded distribution. The newsletter will be produced four times annually, and each edition will include stories about students, alumni, faculty, and important developments on the BGSU Firelands campus.

In this edition, you will read about one of our most rewarding events held annually on the campus, the Scholarship Breakfast, a celebration of students who are working hard to achieve their goal of a college education and a tribute to the generosity of our alumni and friends.

You will also read about Laura Bates, a recent graduate of our Radiologic Technology program. Laura was a nontraditional student and is a great example of our diverse student body, 22 percent of which is nontraditional. Her story is tragic, yet heartwarming, and it is a testament to her perseverance and drive to realize her dream of a career in the field of health care.

On the subject of health care, BGSU Firelands opened the new Allied Health & Sciences expansion earlier this year and we continue to seek opportunities to fully utilize the new labs. Recently, we were pleased to announce a new partnership with the University of Findlay to offer a 2 + 4 transfer program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Not only will students benefit from a substantial cost savings, but they will also have the opportunity to take their science and general education courses in the new state of the art Allied Health & Sciences facilities. The relationship also represents the first professional degree offered through the BGSU Firelands campus.

I hope you also enjoy stories focusing on BGSU Firelands faculty member Michelle Brodke and her research on improvements to Lean Management training and a profile feature on alumni Bryan Huntley '77.

If you are interested in more information on any of the articles included in the newsletter, I encourage you to contact me - I'm always happy to connect with our constituency and to brag about the wonderful things happening here at BGSU Firelands.

With regards,

Andy Kurtz
