Firelands Students

BGSU Firelands students are supported by the Office of Career Services as they choose a major, explore careers, and find a job. Expand the drop-downs below to learn more, or contact us to schedule an appointment.

Choosing a major can be overwhelming and frustrating.  With so many options, it is difficult to know where to start.

The Office of Career Services can guide you through this process.  We work closely with students as they make academic decisions about their long-term goals.  We offer career interest inventories, career counseling, and classes to help you select the best major for your interests and skills.

If you are choosing or changing a major, here is a checklist to guide you through the process:

  • Complete FOCUS, an online interactive career exploration and planning tool designed to help you assess your interests, skills, values, and personality.  To access FOCUS, click here.
  • Make an appointment at the Office of Career Services
  • Consider enrolling in UNIV 1290: Career Exploration.  This course is offered by the Office of Career Services to help undecided students consider their options and select a major.
  • Make an appointment with your academic advisor. Your advisor is a specialist who offers valuable insights about the career you are considering and your academic options.

Above all, don’t be overwhelmed by the need to choose a major. It is an important choice, but at BGSU Firelands, you don’t need to make the choice alone.

After you have selected a major you may be ready to explore your career options.  Information about projected job growth, required education and qualifications, median salary ranges, and professional trajectories is helpful in deciding which career path to pursue.  The Office of Career Services can provide you with this information and with guidance as you select your career goals.
