Area & Community Scholarships

JAMES E. COLE MEMORIAL

High school academic achievement plus potential for scholarly success in college are primary considerations for this $1,500 scholarship. Open to Norwalk and St. Paul High School graduating seniors, applicants will be screened by the principals of the high schools who will recommend three finalists to be considered by the Firelands Scholarship Committee in making the award.

DeBARD FAMILY

This variable scholarship is awarded to a junior from Erie County who is pursuing a major in business or education. A GPA of 3.0 and need are also considered. This scholarship is funded by the Robert DeBard family.

FIRSTMERIT EST BANK

This $500 award is available to residents of Erie County. Special consideration is given to students from the Huron, Vermilion, Berlin Heights and Sandusky areas.

LEON AND SUSAN CROSS BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

This $250 award is available to students who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties, and who are majoring in biological or physical science programs. Both full and part-time students are eligible to receive this book scholarship.

SALLY DeFOREST

Established by the Sally DeForest Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, this endowed scholarship is awarded to graduates or candidates for graduation from all high schools in Huron and Lorian counties and also Edison High School. Recipients may be pursuing studies on either a full or part-time basis.

ERIE COUNTY CABLEVISION, INC

This scholarship is available to both full and part-time BGSU Firelands students who reside in Erie County.

ERIE-OTTAWA MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION FUND

This newly endowed scholarship is available to a junior and senior from Erie and Ottawa Counties who is majoring in the mental health field. Financial need is a priority for this variable award.

JOHN F. & DORIS H. ERNSTHAUSEN MEMORIAL

Two scholarships of approximately $1,500 are awarded annually to graduating seniors of either Norwalk or St. Paul High School. Academic achievement of a level promising success in college is the chief qualification. Applications will be screened by principals of the two schools and they will recommend a pool of three finalist from which the ultimate recipient will be selected by the BGSU Firelands Scholarship Committee.

SANDUSKY REGISTER

This program offers six scholarships of $500 each to three freshmen and three continuing students. Applicants must reside in Erie or Huron Counties, the City of Port Clinton, or Danbury Township.

LYLE L. SPEER MEMORIAL

A $200 award is available to a student from Erie, Huron, or Ottawa County, majoring in world class manufacturing technology or electrical/electronics technology. This is funded by Judge Richard Speer in memory of his father.

DEREK E. CARNEY MEMORIAL

Students who are graduates of either Sandusky or St. Mary's Central Catholic High Schools and who reside in Sandusky or Perkins Township are eligible for this $500 scholarship. Students may be pursuing studies on either a full or part-time basis, and adult learners will be given special consideration in the selection process.

HURON ROTARY CLUB

Applicants must be graduates, or candidates for graduation from Huron High School to be eligible for this $500 award.

KEYBANK

Residents of Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties are eligible for this $750 scholarship. Applicants must be pursuing studies in business and/or finance.

KIWANIS CLUB OF SANDUSKY BAY

These variable endowed awards are available to full-time sophomores who are graduates of Sandusky, St. Mary's Central Catholic, Perkins, Huron, or Margaretta high schools.

RUTH FROST PARKER SCHOLARSHIP

This variable endowed scholarship is available to full and part-time, non-traditional students who reside in Erie County.

SANDUSKY ELKS BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

This $500 scholarship is available to students living in Erie County.

CARL R. & ELIZABETH SWANBECK MEMORIAL

Established by family, friends, and admirers of the late Dr. Swanbeck, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate, or candidate for graduation of Huron High School. Financial need will be the primary criterion, along with scholastic achievement and participation in activities. The award amount varies annually.

MILAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

This $1,000 award is made to a graduate, or candidate for graduation from Edison High School (this includes students from Edison who attended EHOVE.

MILAN MOTHERS CLUB

Graduates of Edison High School who are either continuing students or incoming freshmen, and who are residents of the former Milan Local School District are eligible for this $500 award.

MYLANDER SCHOLARSHIP

Offered to students of Sandusky and other Erie County communities, these scholarships and values will vary annually.
