Class Schedules

Before you register for classes, you'll want to determine what classes are available for the upcoming semester.  Current and proposed course schedules at BGSU Firelands are available here under "Course Schedules."  This web site always has the most accurate information regarding cancelled classes, newly scheduled classes, and changes to classes (new class meeting time, different instructor, etc.) for the current and upcoming semesters.  You can also search for classes by day, time, instructor, credit hour, etc., both at BGSU Firelands and on the main campus, by clicking here .  This powerful search engine will allow you to find your classes if they must meet certain criteria.

Official BGSU Academic Calendar

The official BGSU academic calendar is available here .  It is very important that you pay attention to various dates and deadlines:

  • When classes begin and end for the semester.
  • Days when classes are not in session (breaks, holidays, and recesses).
  • When final exams will be held.
  • The last day to add classes without permission .  Students can add classes to their schedule within seven days of the beginning of Fall or Spring semester classes.  There are similar deadlines for the various Summer sessions.
  • The last day to drop classes or change a grade option without permission .  Students can drop classes from their schedule or change their grade option (letter grade to pass-fail, or pass-fail to a letter grade) within fourteen days of the beginning of Fall or Spring semester classes.  There are similar deadlines for the various Summer sessions.
  • The last day to drop classes with instructor and college permission .  From the beginning of the third week of classes through the end of the ninth week of classes for each Fall or Spring semester, students can drop classes (some, but not all; click here for information about total withdrawal) with instructor and college permission.  There are similar restrictions for the various Summer sessions.  Students who drop classes during this period will receive a W or a WF, depending on the student's academic standing in the class at the time of withdrawal.  W's do not affect grade point averages, but WF's are calculated as F's.
  • The refund percentage schedule.  These dates determine the percentage of fee refund you may receive for voluntarily dropping classes.  Note that the percentages drop quickly.  There are no refunds after four weeks of classes for the Fall and Spring semesters.  There are similar deadlines for the various Summer sessions.
  • The graduation application deadline.  Every student who plans to graduate the end of a particular semester must apply for graduation.  Applications are usually due early in the semester you plan to graduate.  Applications are submitted online via MyBGSU .

The current and proposed course schedules at BGSU Firelands are available here under "Course Schedules."  Be sure to note the following pieces of information on each course schedule:

  • Class Number:  Each section of a course is assigned a unique call number.  Be sure to note the particular call number of the class section you want.  Accuracy is important.
  • Course Description:  This is the official title of the course.
  • Course Number:  This number is used to differentiate courses within departments.  For example, MATH 1120 is a different course than MATH 1200.
  • BG Perspective:  This column tells you if a particular course fulfills the BG Perspective requirements for bachelor degrees at BGSU.  The letters used also tell you in which category a course is found.
  • Credit Hours:  This is the number of credit hours the course is worth.  It is only an approximation for the number of hours the course meets each week since "lab" courses meet more often.  Go to the next page for more information on credit hours.
  • Instructor:  This indicates who is teaching the course.  If it says "Staff" here, it means that the department has not yet assigned an instructor for that course.
  • Meeting Time (Dates):  This tells you when (days and times) a class is scheduled.  For example, if you see "5-7 pm TR," it means that class meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  If you see "10:30 MWF,"  it means that class meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. for an hour.  Also, if a class meets on dates other than the entire semester, you'll see the particular dates on which that class meets.  Any course whose listing is in bold italic print starts at 5:00 p.m. or later

Room Schedules

Where does my class meet?  Classroom schedules are always posted at various locations around campus.  However, for the most up-to-date room schedule, go to the BGSU Firelands web site, available here under "Classroom Schedules."  You can also print out your schedule from MyBGSU where your course's room assignment will be listed.

More Information About Credit Hours

  • The number of credit hours indicate the approximate number of hours you will be in class each week.  Laboratory courses or courses that have a laboratory component will meet more hours than the credit hour  number indicates.
  • You should plan to spend a minimum of two hours of study time for every hour you're in class each week , on average. Often, there will be weeks when you'll spend much more time on homework and projects!
  • There are University mandated requirements for the minimum number of credit hours necessary to complete a particular degree program:
    • Associate degrees require a minimum of 62 credit hours.
    • Bachelor's degrees require a minimum of 122 credit hours.
  • However, because of specific degree requirements, some degree programs may require more than the minimum number of hours to complete.  Check with your adviser.
  • The total number of credit hours earned determines your class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.)  Click here for more information.
