Fall 2009 PSEOP New and Intent To Continue Application Deadline date is Friday, November 13th at 5PM
The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) at Firelands provides qualified high school students, who attend public
and chartered non-public Ohio high schools, the opportunity to strengthen and enrich their educational experience through
direct involvement in college level course work. Students who participate in this program receive college credit which may
also fulfill high school graduation requirements, if approved by the student's home school district.
The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program is intended to complement rather than replace the high school college preparatory
curriculum. To ensure maximum benefit to the student, a close working relationship is necessary among the student's local
school district, parents or guardians, and the University. It is the responsibility of all involved parties to maintain clear
and continuous communication to guarantee that the student receives the greatest possible benefit from participation in the
Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program.
Enrollment Options
Students may enroll in this program for fall and spring semesters under one of the following options:
OPTION A
Students will receive BGSU college credit, and can also arrange for credit from the high school for the course as long as
the guidance staff and local school board policy permits. This option is most often used during summer months when high schools
are not in session and Option B cannot be used. Students have also used Option A when they have taken college courses beyond
the maximum amount of high school credits in a subject area and wish to continue studying in the subject area. For example,
if all high school science credits were satisfied by college courses and the student wishes to take more science courses toward
a college degree that are not going to be used on the high school transcript as credit, they can enroll in the science course
under Option A. Under Option A, the parent and/or student is responsible for the costs of tuition, fees, textbooks, and
materials. BGSU Firelands requires all Option A students to elect the (put the little box with the check mark in it) College
Credit option when completing the College Access Application.
OPTION B
Students receive both high school and BGSU college credit. The costs of tuition, fees and textbooks will be paid by the state
under an established formula. (PLEASE NOTE: If a student under Plan B withdraws from class(es), the parent/student is responsible
for payment.)
Eligibility Requirements
- At the time of application high school freshmen and sophomores must
- have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- successfully complete all components of a locally administered placement examination.
- At the time of application high school juniors and seniors must:
- have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
What classes are available?
PSEOP students may enroll in most classes (with the exception of any developmental courses) that are offered during your semester
of enrollment providing you have the prerequisite knowledge and skill, and space is available. Many PSEOP students enroll
in courses in English composition; Mathematics; Natural Science courses such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics; Psychology,
Sociology, History, and other courses in the Social and Behavioral Sciences; as well as classes in the Humanities and Arts
area including Music Appreciation and foreign languages. PSEOP students are not permitted to take Main Campus classes in Aerotechnology
or Horseback Riding.
What are the benefits of PSEOP?
High school students who qualify for PSEOP have the opportunity to challenge themselves with college level courses while still
enrolled in high school. You could expect interaction with college faculty and early exposure to the collegiate environment,
which could assist you in making a successful transition to the collegiate experience upon high school graduation.
Program Continuation
You must maintain a minimum cumulative college grade point average of 2.0 and pass all classes with a grade of "C" or better
in order to continue in the program.
