Additional Clinical Information
Student Expectations
Any student attending the clinical portion of the program will have completed all health and clinical requirements prior to attendance at any clinical rotation. Please refer to the Respiratory Care Program and Clinical Policies document. These are kept on file with the Director of Clinical Education. This will be the financial responsibility of the student. The cost for completion of all health requirements is approximately $500 - $750
Students will also be required to have their own means of transportation to and from their clinical sites. The furthest site from BGSU Firelands is approximately 60 miles. Students will be required to purchase a lab coat and appropriate clinical clothing along with a stethoscope and a watch with a second hand. Specific dress codes can be found in the Respiratory Care Program and Clinical Policy document. The cost for the clinical clothing, parking fees and other miscellaneous items is approximately $275 over three clinical semesters.
The location of clinical assignment will be determined by the Director of Clinical Education. All students are required to attend rotations at all facilities throughout the clinical portion of the program. Clinical times generally coincide with the daily shift hours at each facility which would be 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. There are a few exceptions which would start earlier or later. Please be aware that there will be a specialty neonatal/pediatric rotation which is a ten hour shift. There is also a twelve hour option for clinicals at a few facilities.
Students will be required to purchase textbooks for all coursework. The textbook costs for all Respiratory Care courses is approximately $650.

Clinical sites utilized include: The American Lung Association, Aristocrat of Berea, The Bellevue Hospital, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Community Health Partners of Lorain, EMH Regional Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, Firelands Regional Medical Center, Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Grace Hospital, Lakewood Hospital, O. E. Meyer, Mercy Hospital of Willard, St. Francis Health Care Centre, St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Southwest General Health Center, Specialty Hospital of Lorain.
Clinical Rotations
All students will participate in clinical rotations in the following areas: Floor Therapy, PFTs, Intubation, Emergency Room, ECGs and Cardiac Testing, Home Care, Management, Physician Rounds, Long Term Care, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Polysomnography Testing, Adult Critical Care, Neonatal Critical Care, Pediatric Critical Care.
